Deep Mirror Prooflike
Notes:
The 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar is readily obtainable except in Gem
condition. The most common Uncirculated grade is MS-62, due
primarily to the poor striking quality that seems to be typical of this
date. Prooflikes and Deep Mirror Prooflikes are very scarce. Gem examples are extremely rare.
The finest examples
certified by PCGS are 16 MS-65's, a single MS-65 Prooflike, and a single MS-65 Deep
Mirror Prooflike.
The finest "1880/79-O" examples graded by PCGS is a single MS-65,
6 MS-64 Prooflikes, and 6 MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflikes.
Nicely struck examples that
display 85% or better detailing of the hair above Liberty's ear and
of the feathers on the eagle's breast should be worth a premium.
