Notes:
The 1879-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the scarcest dates in the series.  The typical Uncirculated grade is MS-63.  The MS-64 grade is very scarce and Gems are rare.  The finest examples graded by PCGS are 2 MS-66's, 3 MS-65 Prooflikes, and 2 MS-65 Deep Mirror Prooflikes.  The example illustrated above was once owned by Jack Lee, who built one of the most extraordinary sets of Morgan Dollars ever assembled.

The mintmark sometimes comes heavily rusted; these are known as the "Capped Die" variety.  On these coins, the mintmark appears to be a large CC over a small CC. The finest "Capped Die" examples graded by PCGS are 4 MS-65's, 24 MS-64 Prooflikes, and 4 MS-64 Deep Mirror Prooflikes.
