Notes:
1917 Quarter Dollars come in two versions: Type One and Type
Two. The first Type is a full reflection of the grace and
style of Hermon MacNeil's original design. Urban legend has it
that a public outcry arose over Liberty's bared breast, prompting a
second Type which covered her in a coat of chain mail.
However, contemporary accounts fail to support the legend and the
change may have been made more in response to World War I and
America's military posturing. The two types also differ in the
placement of the eagle on the reverse.
The finest non-Full Head
"Type 1" example graded by PCGS is a single MS-67.
The finest Full Head "Type 1" examples graded by PCGS are 45 MS-67's.
