Completely different obverse and
reverse dies were used to strike Proof and circulation strike 1875 Gold
Dollars. Circulation strikes exhibit a small, thornlike projection
from Liberty's throat, where the jaw meets the neckline; Proofs do not
have this defect. The finest Uncirculated example graded by PCGS is a single MS-66.
The finest Proof example graded by PCGS is a single PR-66.
